Founded in 2012, the Shoalhaven Education Fund supports young people from the Shoalhaven with their costs of post-school education and training.

We work closely with our partner organisation, the Country Education Foundation of Australia.

SAHSSI is a not for profit Specialist Homelessness Service supporting vulnerable women and families in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions.

In October 2014, two Women’s Refuges merged to create Supported Accommodation and Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra (SAHSSI).

SAHSSI has over 30 years of continuous experience, primarily working with women, with or without children, affected by homelessness or domestic and family violence.

Safe Shelter Shoalhaven is aimed at providing safe, emergency, overnight shelter for homeless people in our community.

The Shelter provides 12 beds each night to those who would otherwise be sleeping rough, as well as a nourishing dinner and breakfast for each guest.

Shoalhaven Kids In Need was established in 1993 by a group of local people primarily to provide assistance to Shoalhaven families of children with cancer or other serious illness.

This assistance includes:

  • Covering costs of accommodation and travel during treatment at Sydney hospitals – with emergency assistance fund.

  • Helping families referred to us by health workers and local paediatricians.

  • Purchase of special equipment for children with special needs.

In Australia, breast cancer impacts 1 in 7 women. With a mission to enhance women’s well-being, the Breast Care Cushion project offers a practical gift of support and comfort during the post-operative phase of breast cancer surgery.

Zonta clubs play a vital role in supplying these cushions to hospitals for free distribution by Breast Care Nurses. Volunteers, both members and non-members, contribute their time and skills to sew these cushions.

The Birthing Kit Foundation (Australia) is a humanitarian organisation that provides birthing kits and education in clean birthing practices to women birthing at home in remote regions of the developing world.

The Foundation works in partnership with the Australian Community and a number of Global Organisations to pack and supply Clean Birth Kits to pregnant women living in rural communities and low-resource settings around the world.

To date, 3 million Clean Birth Kits have been distributed to women in need. Kits are given to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants. They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity of the Australian Book Industry, working with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia.

They ILF is Community-led, responding to requests from remote communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.

YWCA Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation that has specialised in supporting women for over 140 years.

With over 200 employees across 17 locations, YWCA provides housing, support services and leadership pathways that enable women and gender diverse people and their families to find stability and feel safe and secure, so they can build the future they want.

We also operate Song Hotel, a profit-for-purpose business where proceeds are reinvested and contribute to the work of YWCA Australia.

Who supports us...

ZONTA CLUB OF BERRY RECEIVES GENEROUS GRANT
FROM BOMADERRY BOWLING CLUB
Supporting women and children affected by domestic violence

The Zonta Club of Berry is honoured to be one of eight recipients of a generous donation from the Bomaderry Bowling Club. This grant will play a vital role in supporting women and children escaping domestic violence, through the dedicated work of SAHSSI (Supported Accommodation and Homelessness Services Shoalhaven Illawarra).

The funds received will be directed towards providing practical assistance for families as they begin the challenging transition from emergency accommodation to permanent homes. One key initiative is the purchase of laundry baskets filled with essential household items, helping women establish a safe and welcoming environment as they rebuild their lives.

The donation will also help cover costs for children in these families, enabling them to participate in sports by assisting with registration fees, equipment and appropriate uniforms. By providing this support, the Zonta Club of Berry aims to ensure that children can enjoy normal activities, fostering a sense of belonging and stability during a critical time of adjustment.
