We believe in making the world a better place by empowering women

We find joy in doing this in a supportive community of like-minded professionals from diverse countries and cultures

Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. With more than 26,000 members belonging to more than 1,100 Zonta clubs in 63 countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta’s mission and objects.

By partnering with agencies of the United Nations and other recognised non-government organisations, Zonta works towards improving women’s health, provided better economic opportunities, and advocates for the prevention of gender-based violence in over 61 countries.

“Zonta” is an American Sioux Indian word meaning ‘honest and trustworthy’. This is the foundation on which Zonta Clubs work to advance the status of women worldwide.

Three Zonta Districts work together to create Zonta Australia:

  • District 22 - Zonta Clubs in Queensland

  • District 23 - Zonta Clubs in South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

  • District 24 - Zonta Clubs in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales.

In District 24, the Zonta Club of Berry Inc was chartered in 2001. All members are volunteers and meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Our Mission

Zonta International is a leading global organization of individuals working together to build a better world for women and girls.

Our Vision

Zonta International envisions a world:

  • In which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.

  • Where every woman can achieve her full potential, has access to all resources, is represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, and lives without fear of violence. By taking gender-equal climate action now, we can keep this vision alive.

Our Theme

Build a better World for Women and Girls

Our Causes...

Ending Gender-based Violence

Gender-based violence, specifically violence against women and girls, is a severe violation of human rights.

Education Equality

Education is a human right.

It has the power to save and improve the lives of women and girls, which leads to healthier families and stronger communities.

Climate Justice

Millions of people have already lost their homes and livelihoods due to extreme weather events caused by climate change. Most of them are women.

Women in Decision-making

Women's leadership is needed at decision-making tables in the private and public sectors if gender equality is ever to become a reality.

I joined the Zonta Club of Berry because I wanted to help disadvantaged women and girls in the Shoalhaven, support Zonta projects worldwide, and widening my social network in the local area.

I worked for over a decade organising grants for overseas aid projects in third world countries like South Sudan, the Philippines and Burkina Faso.

After retiring from the health sector I wanted to continue making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Zonta's goal of striving for gender equality and contributing to service projects that empower women and girls appealed to me. The bonus has been the friendship and fun we share as a group.

Three years ago, I walked into my first Zonta meeting - and I was instantly inspired. This small but mighty group of women does incredible work our community.

Since joining I've gained friendships, unforgettable experiences, and the privilege of meeting exceptional women.

I joined Zonta Berry as their philosophy and programs aligned with how I wanted to help women and girls in our community, as well as overseas.

After my first meeting, I realised the members were serious about the issues at hand. They were hard working, friendly and a great group of women to be involved with.

I joined Zonta as I have a passion for advocacy, furthering gender equality and wanted to connect with like-minded people who shared these values. I have definitely found that and have had many opportunities to feel I am helping my local community whether it’s with our projects helping women experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence or removing barriers for young people to access tertiary education they may have struggled to pursue. The fact that we have fun and a lot of camaraderie along the way is an added bonus.
